Donor Relations Officer

Job Responsibilities:
Purpose: The Donor Relations Officer raises funds, supports events and facilitates public relations of The Methodist Home in a particular geographic area of Georgia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Build upon existing donor relationships through regular cultivation.
  • Document/Record all donor interactions in the Raiser’s Edge database in a timely manner.
  • Increase prospect base by identifying individual, corporate, and foundation prospects for cultivation and solicitation.
  • Develop relationships and solicits major and deferred gifts from individual donors.
  • Maintain relationships with and solicit new members for The Joseph Company and McIntosh Society.
  • Share and interpret the work and ministry of The Methodist Home throughout the designated region. 
  • Work with Grant Coordinator of The Methodist Home on local requests.
  • Handle all incoming, local charitable gifts per current policies, including entering notes in donor database.
  • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer in coordinating all fundraising and/or capital campaigns affiliated with The Methodist Home.
  • Speak and present about The Methodist Home to various groups as needed.
  • Development liaison between The Methodist Home and the regional Advisory Board(s)/Auxiliary (ies) and assigned Chamber of Commerce.
  • Work with local churches and Champions in coordination with the Vice President of Church Relations.
  • Work cooperatively with program staff and children to ensure positive public and community relations.
  • Assist in providing materials for publication in The Gateway, social media, and website. 
  • Schedule and coordinate campus tours (i.e. suitable date and time, staff and child coordination as needed).
  • Help coordinate special localized fundraising events relating The Methodist Home.
  • Maintain regional display boards for use in presentations, if applicable.
  • Assist in dealing with public relations complaints and/or problems as requested.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Leadership:  Role model and mentor for staff/children.
  • Completes assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Upholds the mission and values of The Methodist Home.
  • Complete training necessary to perform position consistent with program and agency staff development plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, journalism or related/applicable field.

  • At least one year of fundraising experience.

  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Quick thinker and ability to make decisions under pressure

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient with computers including, Microsoft office, Internet and e-mail.
  • Must have excellent motivational speaking skills.
  • Candidate has conceptual skills and can develop an idea into an active project.
  • Candidate is enthusiastic, high energy and a self-starter.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to many different ages and individuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals, staff members, congregations and others.
  • Ability to deal with problems efficiently and effectively while maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to meet and handle the public with tact and poise.
  • Must be able to multi task in a fast paced work environment.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
  • Ability to understand and consistently implement policies and procedures of the Agency.
  • Ability to interact and work cooperatively and effectively with other personnel and residents.
  • Ability to show sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural difference in the service population
