Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social and emotional development of students with an emphasis on language development and developing literacy skills.
· Support the emotional and social development of children.
· Attend to the personal hygiene of each child in your care, including changing diapers or soiled clothing and washing hands.
· Relate to all children in a professional manner that conveys respect and nurturing.
· Carry out lesson plans for activities.
· Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration and problem solving appropriate to the development levels of the children.
· Participate in all staff meeting and in service training.
· Communicate positively with parents in the program and portray a positive image at all times.
· Report all needs to the Director.
· Ensure that the classroom and all equipment are clean and in good working order.
· Reporting all accidents to the appropriate persons (i.e. Director, parents, lead teacher, etc.)
· Reporting all needed supplies and repairs for classroom to the appropriate persons (i.e. Director, lead teacher, etc.)
· Keep records o the children’s progress in the center.
· Document all incidents in the daycare on incident reports; forward these reports to the appropriate persons (i.e. Director, parents, etc.)
· Assist in the cleaning and straightening of the child care rooms at the end of the day, as well as putting away any outside equipment.
· Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.
· Ensure that all information pertaining to the children’s center is kept in a confidential manner.
· Other duties as assigned.
· Maintains a safe, healthy, and secure workplace.
· Provides leadership to the development team by being an active role model and mentor for staff.
· Takes initiative to implement good practice and meet oversight and accreditation standards.
· Interacts professionally and cooperatively with other parts of the agency (i.e. Human Resources, Finance, etc.)
· Completes assignments in a timely and accurate manner
· Complete training necessary to perform position consistent with program and agency staff development plans.
· Handles confidential information in a competent and professional manner.
· Produces work that conforms to high standards of accuracy, thoroughness and thought content.
· Upholds the mission and values of The Methodist Home.
· Demonstrates a commitment to democracy by actively participating in team decisions.
· Practices social responsibility by adhering to attendance and punctuality policies.

· All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Must have a minimum of a Child Development Associate credential, Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) in early Childhood Education, Child Development, Infant and Toddler or related curriculum .
· Must have the necessary stamina, maturity, and temperament to work with children age 6 weeks to 4 years old.
· Ability to be trained in basic skills in first aid and CPR.
· Must have a minimum of a Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) in early Childhood Education or Child Development.
· Must have at least one-year experience working in a daycare setting.
· Must be able to multi task in a fast paced work environment.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
· Ability to understand and consistently implement policies and procedures of the Agency.
· Ability to interact and work cooperatively and effectively with other personnel and residents.
· Ability to show sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural difference in the service population
· Ability to uphold the mission and values of The Methodist Home.
· Must be 18 years of age.
· High level of energy required for working with people.
· Ability to meet and handle the public with poise and tact.
· Ability to show sensitivity and responsiveness to socioeconomic and cultural differences in the service population. Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills
Essential Physical Requirements:
· Duties are performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful to casual and leisurely.
· Duties include sitting, sometimes on the floor, for various periods of time.
· Duties are performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.
· Must be able to lift and/or carry children when appropriate. (Weight range up to 50 lb.)
· Must be able to interact with children sometimes bending, kneeling, squatting, or sitting on the floor.
· Must be able to evacuate children in the case of an emergency.
· Must be able to push stroller, crib, food cart, etc. (Weight range up to 50 lb.)
· Must have good hearing.
· Must have at least 20/40 vision with or without glasses or corrective lenses.
· Must have a good field of vision in each eye.
· Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
· Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
· Duties may include bending, stooping or kneeling for short durations of time.
